About

DirectSwitcher is a small macOS app built around one simple idea: switch directly to the language you want, instead of cycling through the ones you don't.

If you write in two, three, or more languages every day, switching keyboard layouts becomes one of those tiny repetitive actions you barely notice until you realize how often you do it.

DirectSwitcher gives each of your existing macOS input languages its own shortcut. Press one shortcut, and you're immediately typing in the language you need, regardless of which language was active before.

After a day or two, the shortcuts become muscle memory.

Built to stay out of the way

DirectSwitcher lives quietly in your menu bar.

There are no accounts, no cloud setup, and no synchronization required. Everything happens locally on your Mac.

You can choose your own shortcuts, show or hide the on-screen language hint, and customize how the current language appears in the menu bar with a language code, flag, emoji, or your own label.

The app uses the keyboard layouts already configured in macOS, so there is no new input system to learn or maintain.

Why DirectSwitcher exists

DirectSwitcher was made for people who constantly move between languages: for work, university, family, messages, documents, code, or everyday conversation.

The goal is not to make language switching more complicated.

It's to make it disappear.

Instead of checking which language is currently active, cycling through layouts, or fixing a sentence typed with the wrong keyboard, you simply press the shortcut for the language you want and keep typing.

That idea is summed up in our slogan: "Jump straight to any layout".

No cycling. No guessing. Just the layout you want, immediately.
